What is an ingrown hair?
Ingrown hairs are when the hair has grown back into the skin rather than outwards and becomes trapped underneath the skins surface. This can cause bumps on the skin, inflammation and pustules. They can be uncomfortable and a bit unsightly.
What causes ingrown hairs?
1/Hair type- curly or coarse is more likely to become ingrown.
2/Some hair removal method such as shaving, tweezing and waxing especially if proper aftercare is not followed or incorrect technique. Multi-blade razors can cause irritation or ingrown hairs as it cuts the hair so close to the skin almost below the top surface.
3/Accumulation of dead skin causing hair to become trapped under the skins surface.
4/Wearing tight fitting clothing immediately after waxing.
5/Skin type dry skin maybe more prone.
4 tips how to prevent ingrown hairs:
1/ Regularly exfoliate with either a physical scrub or brush or use chemical exfoliator contains things like salicylic acid or glycolic acid.
2/ When shaving don’t use a dull razor and single blade is better. Use shaving gel or conditioner to soften the hair.
3/ Avoid tight clothing immediately after waxing or shaving.
4/ Keep your skin well moisturised
